Public health nutrition (PHN) is the science and art of preventing disease, prolonging life and promoting health through the medium of nutrition. The aim for those working as public health nutritionists is for everyone to achieve greater health and well-being by making healthier food and nutrition-related choices. Public Health Nutritionists develop, implement and evaluate nutrition policies and programmes, generating the evidence base and applying scientific knowledge to ensure understanding of the impact of food and diet on health and well-being of people and communities, and improving the diet, nutrition and health of people and communities around the world.
The department of Public Health Nutrition offers a 4-year Bachelor of Science (Honours) degree in Public Health Nutrition at the undergraduate level. This program extends for 12 semesters and comprises a total of 155 credits. The aim of the department is to produce highly skilled capable graduates in the application-oriented field of PHN. The courses are shaped to suit the present-day demands of PHN in the areas of community nutrition, food chemistry, food science and technology, nutrition education, nutritional epidemiology, dietetics and non-communicable diseases, assessment of nutritional status, field assessment of nutritional problems, management of nutritional problems, nutrition in emergency, nutritional policy planning, biochemistry, food microbiology, human physiology, research methodology, macro and microeconomics. The departmental curriculum has been designed in such a way as to meet the requirements of various national and international research and educational organizations, and industries.
At present 08 full-time qualified faculties have been working, among them 03 Professor, 02 Assistant Professor, and 03 Sr. Lecturers. The Department will provide all laboratory facilities to the students and students could visit to other research laboratories like Institute of Public Health Nutrition (IPHN), ICDDRB, CARE, Prosika, Grameen Bank, BIRDEM, BCSIR, IPH, Bangladesh Breastfeeding Foundation (BBF) and Hospitals for carrying out their research works. Now graduate from this department are working in various reputed national and international organization including ICDDR, B and BBF.
Now the Department of PHN of Primeasia University is ready to welcome all the national and international students for building up their glorious carrier in Public Health Nutrition.
